ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD (ASAB) <br /> <br />6:30 to 8:30 p.m. <br />Wednesday, October 16, 2013 <br /> <br />Meeting Summary <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Susan Elmore (Chair), Michelle Walker (Vice-Chair), <br />DeWanna Anderson, Judy Miller, Warren Porter, Aviva Scully, Suzanne Roy <br />(Secretary) <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Michael Stewart <br />STAFF PRESENT: Bob Marotto (Animal Services Director) <br />UNC Nonprofit Board Fellow for Orange County Animal Services: Ellie Nave <br />________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Agenda: Motion to approve agenda with the addition of ASAB election item <br />under ASAB Affairs. <br /> <br />Summary of September 18, 2013 meeting: Approved unanimously. <br /> <br />General public comments on items not on the agenda: None <br /> <br />ASAB Affairs <br /> <br />1. Elections <br /> <br />a. Susan Elmore and Aviva Scully agreed to serve on the nominating <br />committee. <br />b. Bob Marotto noted that due to BOCC changes in Advisory Board <br />Procedures, election of officers will be simplified this year as <br />compared to previous years. <br /> <br />2. ASAB member recruitment updates <br /> <br />Board members reported on their activities of outreach to Hispanic and <br />African American communities. The outreach work continues through <br />churches, organizations (El Centro Hispanic, NAACP, etc.) and personal <br />contacts. <br /> <br />3. Resignation <br /> <br />Kate Doom Patel, Hillsborough representative, has resigned. Mr. Marotto <br />noted that township appointments are made by the BOCC on the basis of <br />recommendations from the elected board of the township to be <br />represented. He will inform the BOCC Clerkof our goal to diversify the <br />board and ask that she communicate this to her counterpart with the Town <br />of Hillsborough.
