ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: March 15, 2005 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~ - G <br />SUBJECT: Public Safety Telecommunicators' Week <br />DEPARTMENT: Orange County Emergency PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />Management Communications <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Proclamation <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Gwen Snowden, ext 3030 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To proclaim the week of April 10 through 16, 2005, as Public Safety <br />Telecommunicators' Week in Orange County. <br />BACKGROUND: Two national organizations also recognize and proclaim this week on behalf <br />of telecommunicators nationwide, Those organizations are the Association of Public Safety <br />Communications Officials and the National Emergency Numbers Association. <br />Telecommunicators in Orange County are active in both organizations, working toward <br />enhancing the quality of service that communications centers provide. <br />Orange County's communications center provides 9-t-1 service to all residents in the County <br />and dispatches the appropriate emergency services and law enforcement in time of need, <br />Orange County's telecommunicators are among the highest trained in the state, provide a <br />valuable service to the residents and make Orange County a safer place to live. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board adopt the Proclamation <br />and authorize the Chair to sign it, <br />
