Spay Neuter Fund Update
July 20, 2010
Page 2

Our FY1011 agreement promises to further the positive performance outcomes
observed this year. In addition to a base amount of $20,000, the agreement
allows the County to expend another $5,000 on a matching basis with funds
AnimalKind raises to provide targeted spay and neuter in Orange County. Also,
we expect there to be a notable increase in outreach by all parties, and for there
to be more special events such as the annual Spay and Neuter Day.

In closing, I would underscore that our effort is truly a three-way partnership
between Animal Services, DSS and AnimalKind. Given the unique way in which
our program is designed, DSS clients are eligible for a “no pay” spay and neuter
voucher, and it is indeed for this reason that many DSS clients are participants.
We are deeply indebted to DSS staff for their willingness to work with us and
believe that our three-way partnership may well become a model for other
communities seeking to target pet overpopulation.
