( "Josh's Hope ")
• The Peer Recovery Program has the support of the Orange County Sheriff's Office and
the Orange County Criminal Justice Resource Department.
• Male inmates are screened for voluntary participation based on the following criteria: a
diagnosed substance use disorder, a demonstrated commitment to recovery, a sentence
or period of pretrial detention of more than 60 days and the recommendation of
Detention Center administrators and the Criminal Justice Resource Department
Criminal Case Assessment Specialist, Allison Zirkel, LCSW and LCAS.
• Inmates are initially screened and assessed by Ms. Zirkel and referred to Josh's Hope.
They screen each referral and if accepted to the program, the inmate will complete
required admission paperwork and will be moved to a designated cell block that can
house up to 6 participants.
• The Program includes twice weekly evening recovery group sessions of 90 minutes led
by a certified peer support specialist. There will be a maximum participation period of
six months.
• The group session curriculum, as designed by Josh's Hope with materials from the
Copeland Center, includes, but is not limited to: problem - solving workshops, wellness
recovery training, relapse prevention, positive self- advocacy, motivational and
mindfulness instruction, expressive art therapy and introduction to outside supports.
• Each participant receives a Certificate of Completion after a minimum of 60 days of
participation.
• The Program works with each participant to identify needs and supports which will
enhance their ability to engage in positive opportunities and ultimately reduce their
likelihood of relapse and recidivism.
• Participants will be followed post - release for up to 12 months in order assist reentry,
provide support and document outcomes.
• Graduates of the Peer Recovery Program who meet criteria will be provided with
vocational training and internship opportunities with Josh's Hope.
• The Peer Recovery Program will maintain data on participant completion rates and
outcomes for graduates for 12 months after completion.
• The program will be funded through grants to the Josh's Hope Foundation and a
contract with the Criminal Justice Resource Department for reimbursable services up to
$3,500 during fiscal year 2018/2019. These services will be for the peer support
