<br />• Bike rodeo/helmet initiative in collaboration with the Sheriff’s Department; and <br /> <br />• The design and installation of road signs in collaboration with the North Carolina <br />Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the Department of Environment, Agriculture, <br />Parks and Recreation (DEAPR) (for sign installation). <br /> <br />Next Steps <br />• Staff and the BSIS will continue to work on: <br />o The design and production of brochures and posters; <br />o Website design and launch, and <br />o Circulation of the video PSAs. <br />• Attendance at local events will begin on July 1 at the Picnic in the Park at the Farmers’ <br />Market Pavilion in Hillsborough. <br />• The exact date for a Bike Rodeo will be coordinated with the Sheriff’s Department. <br />• Social media ads and posts, and radio ads will be underway by late summer. <br />• Road sign installation will occur in late summer or early fall, following completion of <br />encroachment agreements with NCDOT. The encroachment agreements will come to the <br />BOCC for approval on June 19. <br /> <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact to the County associated with this <br />item. Funds for the Bicycle Safety Campaign were provided in FY 2017-18, $10,000 from the <br />General Fund and $5,000 from the Visitors Bureau Occupancy Tax. <br /> <br />SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is associated <br />with this item: <br />• GOAL: CREATE A SAFE COMMUNITY <br />The reduction of risks from vehicle/traffic accidents, childhood and senior injuries, gang <br />activity, and substance abuse and domestic violence. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board receive the presentation and <br />recognize the videography students, their instructor and the producer. <br /> <br />2
