ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: March 1, 2005 <br />Action Age~a <br />Item No. ~_ <br />SUBJECT: Housing Rehabilitation Contract Award <br />DEPARTMENT: Housing/Comm, Development PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Bid Results <br />Work Specifications <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Tara L, Fikes, ext. 2490 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To award two housing rehabilitation contracts far the HOME Program Housing <br />Rehabilitation Program and one contract for the CDBG Scattered Site Housing Rehabilitation <br />Program, <br />BACKGROUND: The Housing and Community Development Department solicited bids from <br />qualified housing rehabilitation contractors participating in the County s Housing Rehabilitation <br />Program, The informal bidding process is governed by the North Carolina General Statues <br />§143-131 and does not require a minimum number of bids, Additionally, present program <br />procedures provide that housing rehabilitation contracts be awarded to the lowest responsible <br />bidder. Additionally, all contractors participating in the County's Rehabilitation Program are <br />required to utilize current deconstruction and material recycling methods during the repair <br />process. <br />Sealed bids were solicited from participating contractors on January 5 and 11, 2005 with bid <br />openings on .lanuary 26 and 28, 2005, with two bids received for each rehab job. Bid results <br />are attached. J & R Home Improvements and Triple .1 Construction Co. submitted the lowest <br />bids. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The 2004 CDBG Scattered Site Program and the 2003 HOME <br />Investment Partnership Program provides grant funding for this program, <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends awarding the following housing <br />rehabilitation contracts: <br />Dwelling Unit Bid Amount Contractor <br />118 S, Graham St„ Chapel Hill $37,125 Triple J Construction Company <br />105 Roberts St., Carrboro $38,233,60 Triple J Construction Company <br />309 Barnes St,, Carrboro $18,575 J & R Home Improvements <br />
