4/19/17
4
Instead of a lot of new infrastructure they are looking at better
ways to do things.
• A Resolution Supporting Snap And Other Federal Nutrition
Programs: Town of Carrboro asks Senator Burr, Senator Tillis
and Congressman Price to reject any proposals in the 2018 Farm
Bill that cut funding to SNAP or other federal nutrition
programs; shift costs to the states; or otherwise reduce benefits
affecting low-income families, workers, children, the
unemployed, or the elderly.
• A Resolution Supporting Continued Participation In The North
Carolina Department Of Transportation’s Pedestrian And
Bicycle Safety Campaign Watch For Me NC For 2018: The
Carrboro Board of Aldermen that the Board of Aldermen
pledges, in cooperation with the North Carolina Department of
Transportation, to participate in the 2018 Watch for Me NC
campaign.
Hillsborough
Board of
Commissioners
Physical Activity
& Nutrition • The Board discussed very little related to the BOH top
priorities. There were not meeting minutes for February or
March. They have passed a Resolution Supporting Snap And
Other Federal Nutrition Programs.

Orange Unified
Transportation
Board
(OUTBoard)
Physical Activity
& Nutrition • The Bicycle Safety Implementation Subcommittee are
working with The Video Club students at Cedar Ridge
High School to create four bicycle safety video PSAs.
Healthy
Carolinians of
Orange County
All Social Determinants of Health - Access:
• On February 9th HCOC hosted its first ever poverty
simulation exercise with 92 participants. During the poverty
simulation, participants assumed the roles of service
providers and family members. They went through a
“month” that consisted of 4-18 minute weeks where
participants dealt with the everyday barriers of those living in
poverty and the real life experiences that they deal with.
• HCOC’s Access committee hosted its very first Try Transit
Week (TTW) from October 23-28, 2017. The week was
implemented in response to transportation being a priority
for the OCHD, HCOC, and the BOH. Prior to the TTW,
the committee partnered with Orange Public Transportation,
Go Triangle, Chapel Hill Transit and the Department on
Aging and held two Transportation Academies. Together
the Academies educated over 40 service providers. Each
Academy taught the basics of local and regional transit so
that service providers would have the necessary knowledge
and tools to be able to help their clients connect to low-
cost/no cost transportation services and/or serve as a site
for an information kiosk.
