ORANGE COUNTY ARTS COMMISSION <br />February 12, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. Chapel Hill Public Library Meeting Room A. Chapel Hill, NC <br /> <br />Board Members present: Tim Hoke, Chair; Ashley Nissler, Bronwyn Merritt, Delia Keefe, Tinka Jordy, <br />Marcela Slade, Marlon Torres, Linda Williamson, Helen Jones, Chris Kubica, Anita Mills <br />Board Members absent: Doris Friend, Secretary; Dan Mayer, Tarish Pipkins. <br />Staff Members present: Katie Murray, Director <br /> <br />A. Hoke called the meeting to order at 6:30. <br />B. Nissler moved, Keefe seconded to approve the January 19th minutes. Motion passed. <br />C. Grants SubCommittee update: <br />a. Murray reviewed handout about the subcommittee meeting: (document Orange County Arts <br />Commission - Grant Subcommittee Meeting 2/6/2018. Focus was on the highlighted items within <br />that document.) Murray also mentioned going digital in the near future with regards to the Grants <br />application process. <br />D. Director’s Report: <br />a. Murray went over her Director’s report main points: <br />i. - she informed the Board that the OCAC will be getting a flat 10% of the occupancy tax for <br />tourism. (Prior fiscal year 2018-2019) <br />ii. - One of the biggest priorities is SPACE. <br />iii. - The poetry competition will give cash prizes to participants and also the jury. <br />iv. - UNC Arts Everywhere wants OCAC involvement. They have offered the old Ackland <br />Store as a venue to create our “involvement”. Murray mentioned a drawing event, she and <br />Mayer had spoken of, where students and such could participate and therefore have <br />something, like a piece of Art, as a long lasting product. Jordy suggested an Art Show. <br />Slade seconded Jordy, adding creating a piece like a quilt or canvas jig saw piece as the <br />product and then having an Art Show to exhibit the collaborative piece once completed. <br />v. - OCAC image/logo and tag line will be updated as a priority. There was a discussion as to <br />the importance of changing the existing logo and tagline, details as how that should come <br />about, who should design, if they should work in Orange County, etc… <br />E. “Friends of the Arts Commission” <br />F. Liaison Reports: <br />a. Hoke: Visitor’s Bureau – spoke a bit about the airbnb topic. <br />b. NOT PRESENT: Hillsborough Arts Council <br />c. Mills : Orange County Artist Guild - spoke about having completed survey process and the <br />welcoming new Artist Dinner coming up 6-830 Feb 22 at the ArtsCenter. <br />d. NOT PRESENT: The ArtsCenter <br />e. NOT PRESENT: Carrboro Arts Committee <br />G. Advocacy Updates <br />H. Old Business/New Business: FRANK had successful opening at their new space at University Mall. The <br />outreach gallery included in success. <br />I. Nissler moved, Keefe seconded to approve the Grant changes reviewed in item 3 of AGENDA. Motion <br />passed. <br />J.
