Schedule and Possible Outline for <br />Comprehensive Plan Land Use Element <br />Adoption Process <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Craig Benedict, ext. 2592 <br />Tom Altieri, ext. 2579 <br />TELEPHONE Nl1MBERS: <br />Hillsborough 245-2130 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />PURPOSE: Provide the BOCC with an update on Public Outreach, including County advisory <br />board presentations, and Planning Staff's proposed schedule and outline for the <br />Comprehensive Plan Land Use Element adoption process. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Public Outreach, Advisory Board Presentations - At the October 21, 2004 County <br />Commissioners Work Session, the BOCC directed Staff to meet with several county advisory <br />boards to ask for their perspective on Staffs ideas for the Land lJse Element Update, Although <br />written perspectives from each advisory board will be forthcoming, Planning Staff will discuss, in <br />general, initial comments received at the following meetings: <br />Affordable Housing Advisory Board, February 8, 2005; <br />Agricultural Preservation Board, February 16, 2005; <br />Commission for the Environment, February 14, 2005; <br />Economic Development Commission, December 9, 2004; <br />Board of Health, January 27, 2005; and <br />Historic Preservation Commission, January 26, 2005 <br />Attachment 1 Schedule and Possible Outline for Comprehensive Plan Land Use Element <br />Adoption Process -Planning Staff will review the proposed schedule and outline and Public <br />Hearing notification requirements with the County Commissioners in detail. In summary, Staffs <br />proposal includes two Public Hearings for the Land Use Element Update and Zoning <br />Implementation Amendments.. The initial Public Hearing is proposed far May 23, 2005 and is <br />intended to introduce a first draft of the Land Use Element text and zoning implementation <br />amendments and begin receiving formal citizen comment.
