Page 2 of 3 Katie Loovis <br /> Orange County Parks and Recreation Council <br />Background, education and experience relevant to this board: <br />1) Former Master Gardener in W ashington, DC (2015-2016) through the University of the <br />District of Columbia - I am passionate about the production of and access to fresh local <br />produce. <br />2) Master of Public Administration (UNC, 2002) - I would bring a balanced, civil society <br />perspective to the council. <br />3) Former Executive Director of Take Pride in America - a national service initiative that engaged <br />400,000 volunteers on America s public lands (2008-2009). <br />4) Director of Corporate Responsibility for GSK, a global healthcare company committed to <br />building healthier communities throughout the region. <br />5) Form er Captain of the NCAA Division I UNC Women s Lacrosse Team (1999) - I am an <br />enthusiast for outdoor activities that promote health and well-being. <br /> <br />Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br />I recently moved back to Chapel Hill after 15 years in Washington, DC advancing global and <br />national policies. I am eager to get involved locally. As a new Orange County <br />resident who works for a global healthcare company and who is passionate about improving <br />public health, I can offer the Board my sincere commitment. Further, my background in public <br />administration and history of developing meaningful and lasting public-private-nonprofit <br />partnerships means I would bring a well-balanced civi l society perspective to the work of the <br />Board. <br />Conflict of Interest: <br />My company, GSK, likely has products being prescribed at some of the hospitals, m edical <br />centers, and health clinics in the region.
