02 <br />Draft MINUTES <br />AGRICULTURAL PRESERVATION BOARD <br />September 19, 2001 <br />PRESENT: Elizabeth Walters, Marty Mandell, Noah Ranells, Louise Tate, <br />Environment & Resource Conservation Director David Stancil, <br />ERCD Preservation Planner Tina Moon <br />Guests present: Carl Walters, Elise Margolas. <br />ABSENT: Whit Morrow, Bob Strayhorn, Charles Thompson, Tony Kleese, <br />Rodney Recor, <br />ITEM #1: CALL TO ORDER <br />Stancil called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m., thanked everyone for coming <br />and introduced Ms. Margolas from Elysian Fields Farm. <br />ITEM #2: CONSIDERATION OF ADDITIONS TO AGENDA <br />ITEM #3: APPROVAL OF MINUTES May 16, 2001, <br />As there was not a quorum, the approval was deferred. <br />ITEM #4: SPECIAL DISCUSSION — Local Community Supported Agriculture <br />— Elise Margolas of Elysian Fields Farm (Cedar Grove Township). <br />Elysian Fields Farm offers a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. <br />Participating members purchase a share from the farm prior to the growing <br />season. The farm supplies the families or individuals with fresh organic produce <br />once a week, each week, for the length of the growing season. The weekly <br />distribution of produce consists of a wide variety of crops, which varies <br />depending on what is in season as well as individual crop success. In addition, <br />members are allowed to come to the farm at any time throughout the season to <br />pick cut flowers and herbs and blueberries. <br />Ms. Margolas gave an overview of her operation followed by a question and <br />answer session. Stancil described the new Economic Agricultural Development <br />Specialist's position and noted that the Ag Development person could provide <br />help with the marketing component of CSA farm efforts. The annual Agricultural <br />Summit was discussed and possibility of Ms. Margolas speaking about CSA <br />farming. <br />Draft September 19, 2001 <br />
