VL-0—,� /q <br />AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE III FARMLAND PRESERVATION PROGRAM <br />OF CHAPTER 58 PLANK NG AND DEVELOPMENT <br />OF THE BUNCOMBE COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES <br />WHEREAS, this Board has heretofore enacted. the Buncombe County Farmland Preservation <br />Program Ordinance which is codified in Article III of Chapter 58 of the Buncombe <br />County Code of Ordinances; and <br />WHEREAS, this Board appointed a citizens advisory committee known as the Agricultural <br />Advisory Board to advise this Board on programs and issues affecting the <br />agricultural community, and said- advisory board has submitted the proposed <br />amendment to establish a Conservation Agreement Program in accordance with its <br />charge by this Board; and <br />WHEREAS, this Board has determined that it is in the best interest of the citizens of Buncombe <br />County to establish a Conservation Agreement Program and to amend the <br />Farmland Preservation Program Ordinance as herein set forth. <br />OF <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BUNCCOMB Buncombe OCUNT}► Code BOARD dinances <br />COMMISSIONERS, that Article III of Chapter 58 of the <br />is hereby amended to add the Division, Conservation Agreement Program, as follows: <br />Conservation Agreement Program <br />I. . Purpose <br />A. ner l <br />The preservation of Buncombe County's best agricultural land in a manner that <br />directs and accommodates growth and development is a high priority to the <br />residents of Buncombe County. To this end the County establishes the following <br />goals: <br />I .. To protect and conserve those soils in Buncombe County best suited to <br />agricultural uses, <br />2. To identify and harmonize policies of government at all levels which may <br />conflict with the goal of protection of farmland,. <br />3. To reduce land use conflicts between agricultural and other land uses, and <br />4. To promote agriculture as an integral part of the Buncombe County' <br />economy. <br />
