ATTACHMENT # 1 <br />MAU[ <br />ORANGE COUNTY AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE FESTIVAL <br />Featuring the FESTIVAL OF THE AUTUMN MOON <br />September 19 -20, 2003 <br />The concluding event of Orange County's year -long 250th anniversary festivities will celebrate the <br />county's rich agricultural heritage. The Agricultural Heritage Festival will include historic crafts <br />demonstrations, farming demonstrations, artists booths, children's games, a farmers' market, <br />displays of antique farm equipment, music, and "A Taste of Orange" — locally - produced food <br />prepared by local restaurants. The event will be held on the Blackwood Farm, a 150 -acre site <br />near the corner of New Hope Church Road and Highway 86 south of Hillsborough. Classes of <br />elementary school children will enjoy the festival on Friday, September 19th between 10 and 2. <br />The festival will be open to the public on Saturday, September 20th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. <br />Visitors must utilize off - premises park and ride lots, with free shuttles to the farm. <br />Friday, jSeptember 19 <br />On Friday,- elementary classes (Kindergarten through 4th grade) from both the Chapel <br />Hill /Carrboro Schools and Orange County Schools are invited to visit the Festival, transported by <br />school buses. Activities on Friday will include farming and crafts demonstrations, historical <br />interpreters, children's games, and animal demonstrations. Children are welcome to bring their <br />lunches and picnic in the food tent. <br />Saturday, September 20 <br />Activity areas will include: <br />History Tent <br />• Agricultural heritage display provided by the Orange County Historical Museum <br />• Oral history corner in which elders relate their stories and reminiscences <br />• Interpreters for the following epochs — Native American (Occaneechee- Saponi); 1850s <br />(Eno Soldiers Relief Society) ; and Turn of the 20th Century (Tobacco and Farmlife <br />Museum) <br />Children's Games and Game Tent <br />• Interactive Station Games (walking stilts; wooden ring toss; wooden hoops; horseshoes; <br />burlap sack races; jump rope; bocce) <br />• Colonial Picture Dress Up Station <br />• Kite - Making Station <br />• Board Game Stations (checkers, chess and dominoes) <br />• Hopscotch Station <br />Artisan Tent <br />• Spinners <br />• Weavers <br />• Indigo demonstration <br />• Quilting <br />• Chair caning <br />• Wood shaving, tool making <br />• Broom making <br />Artisan Open Fire Area <br />Molasses making <br />• Apple cider press <br />• Blacksmithing <br />• Soap making <br />• Candle making <br />
