jo u3Cff4
RURAL EDUCATION CENTER
Implementation of the Orange County Rural Education Center
Feasibility Report as modified by the Rural Education Center Task
Force will require the acquisition and development of a 40 -60 acre
tract of land. The Center will accommodate a number of agriculture
and non - agriculture activities. Facilities to be constructed at
the Center include holding pens for livestock, a large area meeting
hall and a show ring for livestock shows with rollout bleachers.
Also planned are a small stage, judging area, functional kitchen
which could be used by caterers, bathrooms, small changing rooms
and small office spaces. Activities that might be planned for the
Center include livestock shows, banquets and meetings attended by
500 people. The second phase of the Center plan is to move all
Orange County agriculture - related agencies including the
Agricultural Extension Service, Agricultural Stabilization and
Conservation Service (ASCS), Soil and Water Conservation (SCS),
Farmers' Home Administration (FmHA) and the county forester.
Housing these agencies will require a new building or perhaps
expansion of first phase facilities.
Present Orange County facilities on Revere Road were neither
designed to accommodate the volume of traffic nor to provide the
atmosphere or land area to conduct effective hands -on educational
demonstrations and programs.
1
