16 1 '61 <br />Town of Maysville Water and Sewer Project <br />Grantee Town of Maysville <br />Amount $200,000 <br />Project The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is <br />to assist the Town of Maysville with <br />repairs to the town's wastewater <br />collection and treatment system that are <br />required to lift a moratorium so a 10,000 <br />square -foot retail shopping /office plaza <br />can be developed along Highway 17. <br />Servicing Jones County <br />The Town of Salemburg— Economic <br />Opportunities for the Rural Community <br />Grantee Town of Salemburg <br />Amount $175,000 <br />Project The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is <br />to assist Salemburg with purchasing <br />equipment needed to open a grocery <br />store for the area, which will be leased <br />and operated by a private entrepreneur. <br />The project will create 20 new jobs and <br />result in a new market opportunity for <br />area farmers. The store is a key piece of <br />the town's redevelopment plan that will <br />result in additional jobs creation. <br />Servicing Sampson County <br />Developing Our Own Resources: <br />The D.O.O.R. Initiative <br />Grantee Town of Scotland Neck <br />Amount $50,000 <br />Project The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant is <br />to support Scotland Neck in <br />implementing an initiative to assist <br />farmers with transitioning into <br />alternative agricultural enterprises that <br />utilize the environmental, natural, and <br />recreational resources of the area. In <br />addition, the project will provide training <br />for farmers interested in starting <br />ecotourism -based businesses. <br />Servicing Halifax, Northhampton, Bertie and <br />Martin Counties <br />Seagrove Economic Development Project <br />Grantee Town of Seagrove <br />Amount $89,000 <br />Project This Golden LEAF grant will assist the <br />Town of Seagrove with predevelopment <br />costs to expand the town's sewer system <br />to accommodate the relocation of <br />Yankee Commodity Foods (94 new jobs) <br />and expansion at Wade Technical <br />Molding (50 new jobs and 24 retained). <br />Servicing Randolph County <br />Golden LEAF Scholars Program <br />Grantee University of North Carolina <br />Amount $347,500 <br />Project This Golden LEAF grant will be used to <br />provide a second year of funding for the <br />Golden LEAF Scholars Program offered <br />through the University of North Carolina <br />System Office. Funds will be used to <br />assist up to 137 students with <br />scholarships covering UNC tuition and <br />fees (averaging $2,500) for one year. <br />Eligible recipients will be students who <br />res�de in the tobacco dependent or Tier I <br />counties in the state. Scholarships will be <br />need and merit based. All public <br />universities will be eligible to participate <br />in the scholarship program. <br />Servicing StAewide <br />Bioeconomk and Environmental <br />Suitability 61` Two Asian Oyster Varieties <br />for Aquaculture in North Carolina <br />Grantee University of North Carolina <br />at Chapel Hill <br />Amount $50,000 <br />Project Funds from this Golden LEAF grant <br />will be used to collaborate with shell <br />fisherman throughout eastern NC to <br />conduct feasibility trials with three non- <br />native oysters to evaluate their biological <br />and economical feasibility for widespread <br />commercial cultivation. <br />Servicing Jones, Beaufort, Camden, Chowan, <br />Hyde, Martin, Perquimans, Tyrrell, <br />Onslow, Pamlico, Dare, Pender and <br />Craven Counties <br />Sustainable Solutions to Economic Distress, <br />Tobacco Dependence, Limited Health Care <br />Access and the Nursing Shortage: Nursing <br />Education for Golden LEAF Counties <br />Grantee University of North Carolina <br />at Chapel Hill <br />Amount $200,000 <br />Project This Golden LEAF grant will be used to <br />assist the School of Nursing to increase <br />the number of Nurse Practitioners in <br />tobacco dependent counties by <br />providing Registered Nurses residing in <br />these counties with opportunities to earn <br />graduate nursing degrees from UNC- <br />Chapel Hill. The program will prepare <br />RNs for leadership positions as Nurse <br />Practitioners while they continue to live <br />and work in their home communities. <br />The long -term goal is to build the <br />healthcare infrastructure in rural, <br />tobacco dependent and economically <br />distressed counties of the state. <br />Servicing Alamance, Durham, Edgecombe, <br />Granville, Halifax, Nash, Vance and <br />Wilson Counties <br />Appalachian Food Ventures —A Shared -Use <br />Value Added Food Processing Center <br />Grantee Western North Carolina Regional <br />Economic Development Commission <br />Amount $350,000 <br />Project Funds from this Golden LEAF grant will <br />be used to assist with the creation of <br />Appalachian Food Ventures, a non - profit, <br />shared use, value -added food processing <br />center at the Enka Campus of Asheville - <br />Buncombe Technical Community College. <br />The project will serve farm -based value <br />added producers and food entrepreneurs <br />through access to low -cost processing <br />facilities, training and specialized services <br />needed by small businesses to <br />manufacture, process or add value to <br />food and agricultural products. <br />Servicing Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson and <br />Madison Counties <br />Growing a Natural Products Industry <br />in North Carolina— Graham County <br />Economic Diversification Program, Phase 3 <br />Grantee Yellow Creek Botanical Institute, Inc. <br />Amount $100,000' <br />Project The purpose of this Golden LEAF grant <br />is to assist T4'Yellow Creek Botanical <br />Institute and its partners in developing a <br />vertically integrated botanical products <br />industry in western NC. Funds will be <br />used to help develop a streamlined supply <br />of bloodroot for the European market, and <br />continue providing alternative agribusiness <br />opportunities to the historically tobacco <br />dependent region in and around Graham <br />County.
