February 1, 2001 Agricultural Summit to be held at the <br />Schley Grange Hall beginning at 8:30 with refreshments and ending with a lunch <br />catered by Hobgoods Barbecue and Mapleview Farms ice cream. Speakers <br />include Muffin Borsig from Mapleview Farms to talk about value added products, <br />a greenhouse tomato grower from Wake County, Horse hay & turkey producer <br />from Sampson County, Julian Philpot from Farm Bureau, Gerry Cohn from <br />Farmland Trust , a panel discussion on conservation easements with Ed Norville <br />Conservation Trust, Jean Earnhart, Bob Nutter, and Rich Shaw. It was noted <br />that this date is in conflict with the farm show in Raleigh, which is a conflict for <br />farmers. <br />b. February 21 meeting — Speaker from American Farmland <br />Trust. The American Farmland Trust has a new office in Graham. Commissioner <br />Jacobs suggested having Gerry Cohn come to discuss what the American <br />Farmland Trust (AFT) does. AFT does cost of community services plans. <br />C. Joint Meeting with Planning Board and Historic Preservation <br />Commission. Heritage corridors and St. Mary's Road and other related issues <br />may initiate a joint meeting in April <br />d. Farmland Preservation Trust Fund grant was received for <br />$107,000. A farmland conservation easement with Victor Walters is ongoing. <br />e. Voluntary Agricultural Districts. A draft of a new voluntary <br />agricultural district application was discussed. Wordage change was requested <br />in the section of Conservation Agreement to change "non farm" to <br />"development Stancil reported that the county attorney has agreed to review <br />the document.
