Other ideas of raising quail and
offering hunting for a fee in an adjoining county was discussed.
Ranells asked if AFT has periodical mailing. Cohn said not yet, but he would like
to start a regional newsletter and would add this group to the mailing list. He
offered his services as a resource person for grant proposals and encourage
everyone to look at www.farmland.org. Cohn also distributed a list of eight or ten
things that AFT does. Cohn announced and explained the "Ultimate Farmland
Preservation Tour" and promised to send the information in the mail, and
encouraged everyone to spread the word especially to elected officials.
Morrow thanked Cohn and the APB applauded AFT for its efforts.
ITEM #5: ITEMS FOR DECISION
a. APB Comments — Shaping Orange County's Future
Provisional Report
The APB made minor word changes to their draft comments
on SOCF Provisional Report. It was noted that the
Appendix E "Small Organic Farm Preservation" listed in the
information item section was included at Mandell's request.
It had been referred to by Mandell at the previous meeting (it
is a part of the SOCF task force report). The APB discussed
the SOCF report as being slanted toward organic farming
and wanted to make it known that a lot of this county is in
traditional farming. We want to encourage all types of
farming without questioning techniques that are regulated
and protected already. The members. present agreed that
the summary sheet of the APB's comments regarding the
SOCF's Provisional Report was satisfactory.
ITEM #6: ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION
a. February 1, 2001 Agricultural Summit follow -up.
The APB discussed the success of this year's Agricultural
Summit.
b. Joint Meeting with Planning Board and Historic
Preservation Commission. Moon reported that the joint
meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 4th or May 2"d- The
purpose of a joint meeting is to discuss ways to work
together to achieve common goals, particularly in those
areas where Planning and Environment & Resource
Conservation overlap.
Draft 2/21/2001
