6 <br />Draft MINUTES <br />AGRICULTURAL PRESERVATION BOARD <br />December 19, 2001 <br />PRESENT: Whit Morrow, Bob Strayhorn, Elizabeth Walters, Marty Mandell, <br />Louise Tate, Tony Kleese, Rodney Recor, Environment & <br />Resource Conservation Director David Stancil, ERCD Preservation <br />Planner Tina Moon, and Carol Melton. <br />Guests present: Carl Walters, Helen Strayhorn. <br />ABSENT: Noah Ranells, Charles Thompson, <br />ITEM #1: CALL TO ORDER <br />Strayhorn called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m., thanked everyone for coming <br />and asked if anyone had new additions or items for consideration to add to the <br />agenda. <br />Kleese reported that the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association has been hired <br />to work with NC State to organize a Sustainable Agricultural Research Education <br />2002 National Conference in Raleigh during October. In place of the usual <br />conference lectures, this year will focus on farm tours of local areas by buses <br />and asked if this board would like to be involved. <br />ITEM #2: CONSIDERATION OF ADDITIONS TO AGENDA <br />ITEM #3: APPROVAL OF MINUTES November 27, 2001, <br />MOTION: Kleese made motion to approve the November 27th, 2001 minutes <br />with correction as noted. Seconded by Walters. <br />VOTE: Unanimous. <br />ITEM #4: ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION <br />a. Items upcoming January 2002 & Updates on Voluntary <br />Agricultural Districts <br />Stancil updated the APB with a list of items they may wish to consider in the <br />upcoming year. One key item is to revisit the VFPPO. The APB has discussed <br />potential revisions to this ordinance such as reducing the number of acres <br />required to participate in the Voluntary Agricultural District program. <br />
