36 <br />The two unfunded applications had high merit, but funding was <br />insufficient to cover them. One request from the Forysth County SWCD far <br />exceeded the maximum available grant total and did not demonstrate the <br />availability of the required local matching funds. Another request from the <br />Coastal Land Trust for a purchase of development rights on a portion of a farm <br />in Brunswick County was not recommended for funding in this grant cycle, but it <br />is hoped that sufficient funds will be made available in the future to go forward <br />with this easement. In fact, the CTNC has applied for supplemental funding from <br />the NC Department of Justice's new Environmental Enhancement Fund to <br />supplement the Farmland Preservation Trust Fund and award additional <br />farmland protection grants. <br />
