Drivers Points/ No Child Restraints (SB 1347)
Drivers who fail to buckle -up children will get two points on their driver's licenses. The
measure applies to children under the age of 16 sitting anywhere in a vehicle.
Lobbyist Rules/ One Stop Voting (SB 767 — Co-sponsor of House Bill)
Lawmakers banned lobbyists from giving campaign contributions during session to
campaign treasurers or others acting as agents for candidates.
4'
The bill also allows loca?boards of election to petition the state Board of Elections to set
up one -stop voting locations if the local board is unable to set the foi cations unanimously.
The provision will reduce lines on Election Day by increasing the number of locations
where voters can cast absentee ballots.
Conclusion:
We all came away with some disappointments, of course. I didn't like increasing tuition .
for university students or cutting Medicaid funding by $30 million.
And, we failed to pass bills that would create a state earned income tax credit, allow
patients to sue their HMOs for making bad medical decisions and require HMOs to set up
external review panels for denied treatments.
You can be sure, these bills and many others will be re- introduced in January when we
convene for the 2001 session.
Meanwhile, we are all on the ballot in the November 7 election. Remember, this year, .
you can vote "no- excuse, one - stop" three weeks before the election (October 16 —
November 3) at the local Board of Elections office or other one stop voting sites in your
county.
Thank you for being the active, involved constituents that you are and for making my
work so rewarding.
Sincerely,
Representative Verla Insko
House District 24
