I
The $846,000 would be matched by $846,000 in County funds to protect 3 active farm (about
580 acres total) located in Bingham, Cedar Grove and Hillsborough townships.
We have been informed that only 3 counties applied for funds this year (Durham, Wake and
Orange), in part because those counties have allocated the required matching funds.
Applications were also submitted by land trusts. Notification of grant awards is expected by
the end of May.
c. Status Report on Ongoing Projects
Members discussed the ongoing projects matrix prepared by staff, and noted minimal progress
in some areas, but substantial progress in other areas.
d. Use Value Taxation Update
Staff reviewed the information sheet distributed at the VAD conference. Members discussed
changes to the use value taxation program, particularly in forestry requirements.
e. Agricultural Center Workgroup update
Members discussed the charge and mission statement of the Agricultural
Center workgroup and recommended Tony Kleese and Gordon Warren to fill the two positions
allocated for APB representation. Ranells volunteered to fill an organic Farmer at Large
position. Staff was asked to forward this recommendation along with completed Volunteer
application forms to the BOCC office. Staff noted that Don Johnson agreed (by phone call) to
serve as an alternate if needed.
MOTION: Kleese motioned to adjourn at 9:00. Seconded by Warren.
VOTE: Unanimous.
Meeting adjourned at 9:40 p.m.
DRAFT May 19, 2004 Agricultural Preservation Board Meeting Summary
