He said he is working with the Town of Hillsborough on this item.
Bonnie Hammersley said the signs for Whitted can be done without adding them to the
CIP.
Travis Myren resumed the presentation:

• Orange County Public Transportation Bus Shelters - $125,000 (page 40)
Project Description/Justification: The Orange County Transit Plan, updated in April 2017,
includes bus stop improvements for Orange County Public Transportation (OCPT) through the
½ cent public transit sales tax. During FY 2018-19, $124,971 will be made available to design,
engineer, and install up to five bus shelters on OCPT routes. An Orange County staff team,
with assistance from GoTriangle is considering the highest ridership stops for improvements.
Sites presently being considered include Faucette Mill Rd/US 70; Rainey St./US 70; Hampton
Point/New NC 86 (2-shelters, one on each side of New NC 86); and at two stops on Martin
Luther King Boulevard in Chapel Hill. These stops are located on either the Hillsborough
Circulator or the Orange-Chapel Hill Connector OCPT routes. The transit shelter includes a
bench and shelter, and can be equipped with solar lighting for any to be located in low-light
areas.

FY2018-23 Recommended Capital Investment Plan
Policy Priorities
• Orange County Public Transit – Bus Shelters - $125,000 (p. 40)
o Five Bus Shelters
 Located along Hillsborough Circulator and Orange-Chapel Hill
Connector Routes
 May be used for Chapel Hill Transit and GoTriangle Routes
o Funded with Article 43 (1/2 Cent Transit Sales Tax) Funds

Chair Dorosin asked if it is possible to have benches without the anti-homeless dividers
at the bus shelters.
Theo Letman, Transportation Director, said he thinks this may be is an ADA component
to the bench.
Chair Dorosin asked if this information could be verified and shared with the BOCC.
Commissioner Price said she has heard that those in a wheelchair find it difficult to get
from the sidewalk to the bus due to patches of grass or dirt.
Commissioner Price said the bus stop on Highway 70 is bad, and there is nothing there
but a pole in the grass. She said it is dangerous.
Travis Myren resumed the presentation:
