He said the County does not need the house per se, but it just
comes with the property.
Commissioner Rich asked if the renters would be disturbed by EMS noise.
Dinah Jeffries, EMS Director, said there will be noise.
Jeff Thompson said the tenants still want to live there despite the noise.
Chair Dorosin asked if the renters would present any problem for the operations of the
site.
Jeff Thompson said no.
Commissioner McKee asked if there is a reason the County is buying a 5.5-acre site for
a stand-alone station. He said this seems like too much land.
Travis Myren said that is how the land was offered.
Jeff Thompson said the seller is unwilling to break it up.
Commissioner McKee said he is not crazy about building a stand-alone station, and
asked if co-location has been pursued with the Efland Fire Department.
Dinah Jeffries said the Efland Fire Department recommended this site to EMS,
because Efland is looking into expanding its own station.
Commissioner McKee asked if the substation would be an option.
Dinah Jeffries said the substation property may be used for a possible burn tower.
Commissioner McKee said he still does not understand why the County is buying 5.5
acres for a substation. He said it seems excessive.
Travis Myren said 5.5 acres is not necessary, but property is in a strategic location. He
said staff has completed other property searches.
Jeff Thompson said no alternatives were found.
Dinah Jeffries spoke to the strategic location of the property. She said she spoke with
the Efland Deputy Chief, and it was determined that this was one of the easiest locations in
which to enter and exit, and from which to access surrounding areas.
