He said the letter C on the map is another 20 <br />potential camping area that is consistent with the MTS. He said one of these two locations 21 <br />would be the waystation. 22 <br />Commissioner McKee asked if the process is getting ahead of itself, as there is 23 <br />currently only a possible corridor for MTS. 24 <br />David Stancil said that is correct, but right now staff is only talking about putting in a 25 <br />well. 26 <br />Commissioner McKee said he is unsure why any facilities are being put in until the 27 <br />exact location of the MTS is known. 28 <br />David Stancil said the segment from there back to Occoneechee Mountain is already 29 <br />underway, and could be finalized in a matter of months. 30 <br />Commissioner McKee asked if this is a way to pre-determine the route of the trail. 31 <br />David Stancil said the route of the trail has already been adopted. 32 <br />Commissioner McKee said the corridor for the route of the trail has been adopted. 33 <br />David Stancil said there is really only one way to get to this part of the property from 34 <br />Occoneechee Mountain. He said Riverwalk could be extended to this property in the short 35 <br />term. 36 <br />Commissioner Jacobs asked if, when talking about a campsite, it is one where fires are 37 <br />not allowed. 38 <br />David Stancil said yes. 39 <br />Commissioner Price said the CIP wording states, “the project reflects phased voluntary 40 <br />acquisition of trail easements….”, and asked if this means donated easements. 41 <br />David Stancil said some property owners might donate easements. 42 <br />Travis Myren said imminent domain will not be used. 43 <br />Commissioner Price asked if the total amount the County plans to spend on MTS is 44 <br />known. She said it was her understanding that the Friends of the MTS would take on 45 <br />fundraising. 46 <br />David Stancil said page 65 gives an overview of this. He said a memorandum of 47 <br />understanding with The Friends of the MTS will be brought back to the Board next month. He 48 <br />said trails are not expensive, but rather the boardwalks, trail heads, signage are where costs 49
