Departments 15
highlighted included Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation (DEAPR), Board of 16
Commissioners, Solid Waste, the Board of Elections, Human Resources, Animal Services, 17
Child Support Services, Aging, Information Technology and Economic Development. The 18
Community Relations Department is also sponsoring a County Budget Simulation Exercise for 19
students, which will be held at the Whitted Building on April 26, from 4:30 – 7 p.m. 20
Commissioners are invited to visit the session to hear how the different groups put together a 21
county budget. 22
23
Commissioner Price read the proclamation: 24
25
ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS 26
PROCLAMATION 27
County Government Month - April 2018 28
"Serving the Underserved" 29
30
WHEREAS, the nation’s 3,069 counties serving more than 300 million Americans provide 31
essential services to create healthy, safe and vibrant; and 32
33
WHEREAS, counties move America forward by providing health care, administering justice, 34
keeping communities safe, creating economic opportunities and much more; and 35
36
WHEREAS, Orange County and all counties take pride in their responsibility to protect and 37
enhance the health, welfare and safety of their residents in efficient and cost-effective ways; 38
and 39
40
WHEREAS, through National Association of Counties President Roy Charles Brooks’ “Serving 41
the Underserved” initiative, NACo is focusing on the critical role counties play in breaking multi-42
generational cycles of poverty; and 43
44
WHEREAS, counties provide public health, justice, safety, infrastructure, transportation, 45
technology, environmental stewardship and economic services that play a key role in everything 46
from residents’ daily commutes to emergency response; and 47
48
WHEREAS, Orange County Government exists to provide governmental services requested by 49
County residents or mandated by the State of North Carolina, and is guided by the objective 50
