He said he is working with the Town of Hillsborough on this item. 16 <br />Bonnie Hammersley said the signs for Whitted can be done without adding them to the 17 <br />CIP. 18 <br />Travis Myren resumed the presentation: 19 <br /> 20 <br />• Orange County Public Transportation Bus Shelters - $125,000 (page 40) 21 <br />Project Description/Justification: The Orange County Transit Plan, updated in April 2017, 22 <br />includes bus stop improvements for Orange County Public Transportation (OCPT) through the 23 <br />½ cent public transit sales tax. During FY 2018-19, $124,971 will be made available to design, 24 <br />engineer, and install up to five bus shelters on OCPT routes. An Orange County staff team, 25 <br />with assistance from GoTriangle is considering the highest ridership stops for improvements. 26 <br />Sites presently being considered include Faucette Mill Rd/US 70; Rainey St./US 70; Hampton 27 <br />Point/New NC 86 (2-shelters, one on each side of New NC 86); and at two stops on Martin 28 <br />Luther King Boulevard in Chapel Hill. These stops are located on either the Hillsborough 29 <br />Circulator or the Orange-Chapel Hill Connector OCPT routes. The transit shelter includes a 30 <br />bench and shelter, and can be equipped with solar lighting for any to be located in low-light 31 <br />areas. 32 <br /> 33 <br />FY2018-23 Recommended Capital Investment Plan 34 <br />Policy Priorities 35 <br />• Orange County Public Transit – Bus Shelters - $125,000 (p. 40) 36 <br />o Five Bus Shelters 37 <br /> Located along Hillsborough Circulator and Orange-Chapel Hill 38 <br />Connector Routes 39 <br /> May be used for Chapel Hill Transit and GoTriangle Routes 40 <br />o Funded with Article 43 (1/2 Cent Transit Sales Tax) Funds 41 <br /> 42 <br />Chair Dorosin asked if it is possible to have benches without the anti-homeless dividers 43 <br />at the bus shelters. 44 <br />Theo Letman, Transportation Director, said he thinks this may be is an ADA component 45 <br />to the bench. 46 <br />Chair Dorosin asked if this information could be verified and shared with the BOCC. 47 <br />Commissioner Price said she has heard that those in a wheelchair find it difficult to get 48 <br />from the sidewalk to the bus due to patches of grass or dirt. 49
