Asked what is going on now, what is going well and what would they like to see? These were formulated via <br />surveys, focus groups, community meetings and key informant interviews. <br />Some worries included the highest area of concern, "Will I get dementia ?" <br />Priorities for the 1 st year of the 5 year plan: <br />Priority 1: Foster Partnership <br />Priority 2: Increase accessibility and safety of public outdoor spaces and buildings to older adults of all abilities. <br />Priority 3: Enhance advocacy efforts by and on behalf of older adults relative to the planning and use of public <br />outdoor spaces and buildings. <br />4. Update / Trails & Greenways Map / Marabeth Carr presented on the Trails and Greenways Map <br />The Interactive Park Locater Map was shown to the group with a description of how it works. As Trueblood <br />pointed out, information is continually being added and updated; therefore the map continues to grow. <br />5. What's on the Horizon? / Long Range Parks and Recreation Plans <br />A. City of Mebane — N /A. <br />B. Town of Chapel Hill, Jim Orr spoke. Festifall just occurred, downtown Chapel Hill, on Sunday, October <br />1 st. It was a well attended, good event. The Bolin Creek Trail phase of a new section is complete. The next <br />connection is about to be completed as far as Umstead Park at Northside. They just hosted a MST cycling event <br />at the Seymour Center. English spoke of its 1 st annual Pickle Ball Tournament, played at the Ephesus Courts. <br />Rich asked if the beach volleyball courts were being expanded. He said yes, they had expanded to 2 new courts <br />built and a 3rd on the way. <br />C. Town of Carrboro, Jones McNair spoke. On Nov 18 -19th, there will be a Film Festival at the Art Center. <br />They have 3 infrastructure projects. The Farmers Market Shelter will be renovated; Dr. Martin Luther King Park is <br />in the works; and the town is working with the Library and Arts Center on a new facility with shared space for <br />Parks and Recreation, allowing for the Police Department to expand. <br />D. Town of Hillsborough — Downtown sidewalks and ADA ramps are nearly complete; the next major <br />sidewalk project will be in West Hillsborough and will connect with Gold Park and the River Walk; there is a bee <br />hotel to be unveiled (an environmental and art related art work in Gold Park); some playground equipment in Gold <br />Park will be replaced; master plans are in the works for each of the parks and cemeteries in Hillsborough; Kings <br />Highway park trails will be reestablished; Cates Creeks Park will get a storm water retrofit. <br />E. Orange County, Dave Stancil spoke. End of Fall Soccer Season; Soccer.Com Center gets a lot of <br />demand, to include that this weekend's hosting of a Lacrosse Tournament, and future Ultimate Frisbee <br />Tournament; Halloween Spooktacular Oct 27; MST information introduced to BOCC with greenlight to begin a <br />section between Hillsborough and Saxapahaw and discussion of a multi -modal trail connecting Hillsborough to <br />Chapel Hill and Carrboro; Fairview Park is now engaged in an assessment of what is in the landfill below it and its <br />future implications; at Blackwood Farm Park, there is some future infrastructure work to be completed soon to <br />include a new parking area and a bee house. Rich asked about Hollow Rock Park, and if it was really getting 89 <br />visitors per day and Stancil said, yes. <br />F. Triangle Land Conservancy and Brumley Forrest -Bo Howes, where they were able to count, many <br />more people are using the area then they might have expected. The Northern Parking Area is almost complete. <br />G. UNC Recreation, Bill Goa -no new information. <br />6.
