MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES <br />October 16, 2017 <br />2 <br />included please make sure to bring suggestions back to the November meeting. <br />3.Medicaid Report Card <br />LindseyShewmaker explained theMedicaid Report Card and noted that Orange County has <br />consistently passed the report card this year. <br />4.NC FAST Child Welfare Update <br />NancyCoston updated the Board about the delay in child welfare for converting in NC FAST. After <br />meeting with the pilot counties, the Division of Social Services has decided to delay rollout until late <br />January to give the pilot counties more time to test the system. <br />Ann Wilkerson has heard from a child care provider who is having trouble getting paid for services <br />through NC FAST. Ms. Coston noted that the only thing she is aware of is there are some issues <br />with paying enhancements. Ms. Wilkerson responded that the issue seems to be about the rates. <br />Ms. Coston responded that staffwill follow up. <br />5.Holiday Schedule <br />SharronHinton reviewed the schedule for the agency’s holiday programs.The Toy Chest will be <br />held on December 16th and 17th. On Saturday the hours are 10:00am-6:00pm and on Sunday <br />12:00pm-5:00pm. Letters are going out to sponsors. UNC Athletics has scheduled the December <br />3rd men’s basketball game against Tulane to collect toys. The Hillsborough parade is Saturday <br />December 2nd and Chapel Hill parade is Saturday December 9th. Toy drop off for sponsors will be <br />the week of December 11th from 8:00am-5:00pm andon the 13th and 14th until 7:30pmat both <br />offices. Marines will be at the basketball games. Staff are finalizing collection sites and are still <br />looking for other events. <br />Ann Wilkerson suggested the senior centers as collection sites and Pat Garavaglia suggested Carol <br />Woods as a collection site.Ms. Garavaglia also made a few suggestions about ways to access <br />more books, including Scholastic books in Cary. <br />Ms. Wilkerson asked when set-up will begin. Ms. Hinton replied that the meeting rooms will be <br />available starting after Thanksgiving. <br />6.Legislative Discussion <br />NancyCoston updated the Board on the workgroup starting discussion of House Bill 630. The first <br />topic is about state supervision and the discussion so far is about performance indicators. There <br />will be a contract coming to the county to sign on performance indicators. There will be steps the <br />state can take if counties fail to meet the requirements. Representative Verla Insko discussed <br />having a meeting between the DSS Board and legislative delegation to discuss these issues. <br />Board members agreed to see if the meeting could be scheduled during the November Board <br />Meeting. <br />7.Director’s Report <br />Some staff and Board Members will be attending the Social Services Institute this week.
