<br /> 27 <br /> <br />Healthy Weight <br /> 1 in 5 adults are obese. <br /> <br /> 1 in 2 adults are a healthy weight. <br /> <br /> 14% of low-income preschool children are <br />obese. <br /> <br /> According to survey results 47% of survey <br />respondents would be considered overweight <br />or obese based on their Body Mass Index <br />(BMI), however, only 30% of survey <br />respondents (shown in figure 20) reported <br />having been told by a doctor that they are <br />overweight or obese. <br /> <br /> <br />Nutrition in our Schools <br /> The number and percent of students on free or reduced lunch has increased, both countywide and <br />in both school districts. <br /> <br /> 34% of children in Orange County’s two districts receive free or reduced lunch, an increase from the <br />32% (6,177 students) in 2011-2012. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> According to Subject Matter experts: <br />o School Nutrition in the last 4 years has changed dramatically in respect to Healthy, Hunger-Free <br />Kids Act of 2010 and the Let's Move Campaign. <br />o Both school districts in Orange County have seen improvements in school nutrition policies <br />including one district’s requirement of fruits/veggies at breakfast and lunch; whole grain in <br />breads and baked goods; and low fat and nonfat dairy products, and another districts’ policy to <br />cut out any food outside of the school food service program. <br /> <br />The following Physical Activity and Nutrition population health dashboard provides county level data <br />specific to physical activity, nutrition and healthy weight. <br />Table 5: Students receiving free or reduced lunch <br />Student Nutrition Orange County <br />Percent of students in free and reduced <br />school meal program. <br /> <br />34% (6,631) <br />Percent of children in free and reduced <br />meal program actually getting free and <br />reduced price school meals. <br />14% (901) <br />Underweight <br />3% <br />Normal <br />51% <br />Overweight <br />29% <br />Obese <br />17% <br />Figure 20: BMI among survey respondents
