<br /> 14 <br /> <br />Figure 10: Resident access to medical facilities <br />and bus stops in Orange County. <br />Access to Transportation <br />Transportation was cited in the 2007, 2011 and 2015 <br />Orange County Community Health Assessments as a <br />barrier to accessing health care services, specifically for <br />northern Orange and rural residents. See figure 10 for <br />a map of those residents who live 1 mile within a <br />medical facility and bus stop. <br /> <br /> 3,000 individuals in Orange County with no vehicle <br />live outside of the walkable/ridable coverage area <br />to medical clinics (shown in the white region of <br />figure 10). <br /> <br /> In 2014, there were 66,130 Orange County <br />residents, 16 years and over, commuting to work. <br />8% of that population (4,941) utilized public <br />transportation, 68% drove alone, 9% carpooled, <br />5% walked and 3% utilized other means20. <br /> <br /> The disabled, elderly, and those on Medicaid <br />qualify for free or reduced cost transportation in <br />rural areas through Orange County Public <br />Transportation (OPT). Those who do not qualify <br />can request OPT pickup/drop-off for a one way <br />charge of $12.50. <br /> <br />OPT operates two midday/off peak fixed-route services <br />Monday through Friday, excluding County Holidays through the Hillsborough Circulator and the Orange- <br />Chapel Hill Midday Connector. <br /> <br />
