Households were given the option to provide a phone number <br />to complete the survey over the phone or given a link to complete the survey online at a later time if <br />more convenient. All survey respondents who completed a door-to-door survey were given a small <br />incentive for their participation. <br /> <br />A 50-question survey was developed and administered (door-to-door) based on standardized questions <br />representing the 13 Healthy North Caroliana 2020 focus areas: Tobacco, Physical Activity and Nutrition, <br />Injury and Violence, Maternal and Infant Health, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Unintended <br />Pregnancies, Substance Abuse, Mental Health, Oral Health, Environmental Health, Infectious Disease <br />and Foodborne Illness, Chronic Disease, and Social Determinants of Health. The survey was <br />administered by hand and entered into EpiInfo version-7software. A flash drive was used to merge the <br />data from multiple input devices onto one computer and analyzed through Microsoft Access. Online <br />health opinion and partner surveys were administered and analyzed through Survey Monkey. All data <br />was combined and analyzed through custom formulas and reports, comparing all question responses <br />against multiple categories of age, race/ethnicity, and gender. Community findings and responses are <br />presented throughout the document under the Survey Data heading inserts. <br /> <br />Focus Groups <br />Five focus groups (55 voices) were conducted between July and September among populations that are <br />at-risk and/or under-represented to gain more in-depth understanding of what health concerns are <br />experienced in Orange County. Focus group questions were broad and explored important aspects of <br />good health, community strengths, and barriers to good health, with follow up questions and prompts <br />tailored for each group. Focus groups were conducted in partnership with Bridging the Gap CDC, the <br />Family Success Alliance, Chapel Hill – Carrboro City Schools, the Latino Health Coalition and the Refugee <br />Health Coalition, and were conducted among older African Americans, Hispanic/Latino, Refugees from <br />Burma, youth and low-income African Americans. <br /> <br />Focus group participation was recruited from existing networks and relationships with relevant agency <br />providers. Each focus group was led by a trained facilitator and notes were taken by an informed <br />notetaker. All focus groups were digitally recorded and transcribed, and all comments were helpful in <br />highlighting gaps, specific concerns, and providing richness to the overall data results. Community <br />findings and responses are presented throughout the document under the Focus Group heading inserts. <br /> <br />Spreading awareness of both online and door-to-door surveying and community listening sessions was <br />created through: electronic emailing, address mailing, local media outlets (newspapers, radio), Healthy <br />Carolinians of Orange County, community listserv’s, Orange County Government, social media, Chapel <br />Hill – Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, UNC Hospital, community newsletters, various community <br />coalitions and partnerships, county agencies and organizations, CHA specific committees, Orange <br />County Board of Health, and the Orange County Board of County Commissioners. <br /> <br />Subject Matter Experts <br />Agency and subject matter partners completed a short survey on their experiences and expert opinions <br />on the Healthy NC 2020 content areas. Twenty local partners completed the survey in response to how <br />their agencies/organizations are addressing the needs of residents as they pertain to specific health <br />concerns. In addition, they discussed any barriers and/or trends they have observed in their field of <br />expertise.
