1 <br /> <br />APPRIVED 4/17/2018 <br /> MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />March 20, 2018 <br />7:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, March 20, <br />2018 at 7 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. <br /> <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Dorosin and Commissioners Mia Burroughs, <br />Barry Jacobs, Earl McKee, Mark Marcoplos, Renee Price and Penny Rich <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br />COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br />COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br />Travis Myren and Asst. Deputy Clerk II Sherri Ingersoll (All other staff members will be identified <br />appropriately below) <br /> <br /> Chair Dorosin called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. <br /> <br />1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br />Chair Dorosin suggested moving item 11-a, Appointments to the Animal Services <br />Hearing Panel Pool, to after item 4-d. <br />The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) agreed by consensus. <br />Chair Dorosin noted the following items at the Commissioners’ places: <br />- 4-a: Elections PowerPoint <br />- 4-c: Revised Resolution in Support of the Equal Rights Amendment <br />- 6-b: Update on Manufactured Homes <br />- 7-a: Orange County Transportation Update PowerPoint <br /> <br />Commissioner Rich requested moving item 6-c (UDO Text Amendments on Regulating <br />Flagpoles and Flags) to the beginning of the regular agenda, since the re are a lot of members of <br />the public present to speak on the issue and the Board agreed. <br /> <br />PUBLIC CHARGE <br />Chair Dorosin dispensed with the reading of the public charge. <br /> <br />Arts Moment <br /> <br />Katie Murray, Arts Commissioner Director, read the following introduction: <br />Thomas Mira y Lopez is the author of The Book of Resting Places (Counterpoint Press, <br />2017). He holds an MFA from the University of Arizona and has received fellowships from The <br />MacDowell Colony and Colgate University. Originally from New York, he lives in North Carolina <br />where he is currently the Kenan Visiting Writer at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. <br /> Thomas Mira y Lopez thanked the Board of County Commissioners for having him, and <br />read an excerpt from one essay in his book, “The Book of Resting Places – a Fan for the <br />Afterlife.” <br /> Chair Dorosin thanked him for coming, and said that it is always nice to be reminded of <br />the vibrant role the arts play in the community. <br />
