ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />County Government Month - April 2018 <br /> <br />"Serving the Underserved" <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the nation’s 3,069 counties serving more than 300 million Americans provide <br />essential services to create healthy, safe and vibrant; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, counties move America forward by providing health care, administering <br />justice, keeping communities safe, creating economic opportunities and much more; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Orange County and all counties take pride in their responsibility to protect and <br />enhance the health, welfare and safety of their residents in efficient and cost-effective ways; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, through National Association of Counties President Roy Charles Brooks’ <br />“Serving the Underserved” initiative, NACo is focusing on the critical role counties play in <br />breaking multi-generational cycles of poverty; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, counties provide public health, justice, safety, infrastructure, transportation, <br />technology, environmental stewardship and economic services that play a key role in <br />everything from residents’ daily commutes to emergency response; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Orange County Government exists to provide governmental services <br />requested by County residents or mandated by the State of North Carolina, and is guided <br />by the objective that “Our Residents Come First” and with the charge to treat all residents <br />and all County employees with fairness, respect, and understanding; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners have made tremendous <br />investments in public education, affordable housing, human services, economic <br />development and public safety to enhance the quality of life for all County residents; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT we, the Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners, do hereby proclaim April 2018 as County Government Month and <br />encourage all County officials, employees, schools and residents to participate in county <br />government celebration activities. <br /> <br />This the 17th day of April, 2018. <br /> <br />________________________________ <br />Mark Dorosin, Chair <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />2
