Design for the 2 <br />facility will occur through the fall of 2018. Construction is anticipated to start in the winter of 3 <br />2019 and be completed in the spring of 2021. 4 <br /> 5 <br />e) Southern County Campus 6 <br />Travis Myren reviewed the following information: 7 <br /> 8 <br />The Board of Orange County Commissioners authorized the first phase of remodeling and 9 <br />expansion of the Southern County Campus in FY2017-18. This campus includes the Seymour 10 <br />Senior Center and the Southern Human Services Center facilities. The first phase of the project 11 <br />includes an expansion of the Seymour Center, straightening the roadway entrance, and adding 12 <br />parking space for the Seymour Center. The Board of Orange County Commissioners is 13 <br />scheduled to review the schematic design of Phase 1 in June of 2018. Development design and 14 <br />construction documents are anticipated to be complete in the winter of 2018, and construction 15 <br />is anticipated to be complete is the late winter of 2020. The Town of Chapel Hill planning staff 16 <br />will complete a technical review of the design documents as governed by the master plan 17 <br />special use permit. 18 <br /> 19 <br />The second phase of this project includes remodeling the existing Southern Human 20 <br />Services Center to improve the health and dental clinic areas and office spaces occupied by the 21 <br />Department of Social Services. Construction of the second phase is scheduled to begin in 22 <br />FY2019-20. 23 <br /> 24 <br />3. Discussion on Improving Collaboration on Gateway Area Planning 25 <br /> 26 <br />Ben Hitchings reviewed the following slide from the PowerPoint presentation from Item 27 <br />2-a, and reviewed a graphic rendering of the area: 28 <br /> 29 <br />Collaboration in Gateway Area 30 <br />Proposed Coordination: 31 <br />• Regular updates 32 <br />• Periodic discussions through Durham-Chapel Hill-Orange Work Group (DRCHO) 33 <br />• Staff coordination as needed 34 <br /> 35 <br />o Station Area 36 <br />o State Employees Credit Union (SECU) area: to be redeveloped, plans 37 <br />yet to come 38 <br />o Wegmans 39 <br />o Edge of Blue Hill District Area 40 <br /> 41 <br />Ben Hitchings said there is a desire to connect these projects appropriately. He said 42 <br />regular updates will be provided to the County, as well as to generate some statistics on 43 <br />anticipated property tax revenues. 44 <br />Commissioner Marcoplos asked if the Durham/Orange County line could be identified on 45 <br />the map. 46 <br />Ben Hitchings pointed it out. 47 <br />Commissioner Marcoplos said the boundary means that the Durham County 48 <br />developable area for the Gateway station is bounded by I-40. 49 <br />Ben Hitchings said yes. 50
