FIELD INVESTIGATIONS - TASK 1 <br />The purpose of the fieldwork is to determine the presence or absence of prehistoric and /or <br />historic archaeological resources on the property. With the exception of previously disturbed <br />areas (existing buildings and graded and /or paved areas), the entire property will be subjected <br />to a pedestrian survey to locate above - ground and surface features and artifacts. Intensive <br />subsurface investigations will be conducted in areas that are determined to have a high <br />probability for the presence of archaeological materials. Shovel testing will not be conducted in <br />areas that are steeply sloped or wetlands. <br />Shovel and /or auger testing will be excavated in areas of low ground- surface visibility at <br />intervals determined by project mapping and field reconnaissance based on landform and <br />presumed potential for the presence of archaeological sites. High - probability areas will be <br />determined by project mapping and field reconnaissance. Factors that will be considered for <br />determining high probability will be soil condition, landform, and distance to water. <br />4 <br />
