a <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />RESOLUTION OF RECOGNITION OF <br />MILLARD FULLER <br />FOUNDER OF HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INTERNATIONAL <br />WHEREAS, In 1976, Millard Fuller and his wife Linda founded Habitat for Humanity <br />International; and, <br />WHEREAS, Habitat volunteers approach building their 200,000°i home, providing a simple, <br />decent place to live for over 900,000 people around the world; and, <br />WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity International is well known as the leader in the affordable <br />housing movement in the United States, as well as working in over 100 different <br />countries; and, <br />WHEREAS, Habitat recycles used and surplus building materials through ReStores, including <br />approximately 5,000 sq. ft. of the original maple flooring from Woollen Gym at <br />UNC, raising over $10,000; and, <br />WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity of Orange County has built more than 125 homes since <br />starting in 1984, providing a safe place to live for over 425 children; and, <br />WHEREAS, New Homestead Place, Chestnut Oaks, Rusch Hollow, and Richmond Hills provide <br />safe affordable housing for Orange County residents; and, <br />WHEREAS, Millard Fuller has demonstrated in the world we live in today, one person can make <br />a difference. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners expresses <br />its sincere appreciation and recognition to Millard Fuller, Founder of Habitat for <br />Humanity International for his outstanding effort and skills to bring awareness of <br />affordable housing needs, as well as starting the infrastructure to provide affordable <br />housing to residents of Orange County, <br />This the first day of February 2005 <br />Moses Carey, Chair
