Number of Lots12235 <br />Right-of-Way Width50 ft.50 ft.50 ft.50 ft. <br />Travel-Way Width18 ft.No Standard12 ft.12 ft. <br />Road Maintenance <br />Agreement Required YesYesYesYes <br />Maintenance <br />Responsibility Property Owners Property <br />Owners Property Owners Property <br />Owners <br />(1)Certificate of Construction <br />(a)A registered land surveyor must certify in writing to the Planning <br />Departmentthat the travelway of the Private Road, either existing, <br />upgraded or newly constructed, is within the platted right-of-way. <br />(b)A professional engineer must certify in writing to the Planning <br />Departmentthat a PrivateRoad, either existing, upgraded, or newly <br />constructed, meets the standards of the required class for the <br />subdivision, provided however, there is no requirement for written <br />certification by a professional engineer for a private road serving three or <br />fewer lots. <br />(c)The following must be inspected and certified: <br />(i)The proper material has been used in the travelway and it is built <br />to the required width and thickness; <br />(ii)The shoulders are the correct width and the typical cross section <br />is in place; <br />(iii)The road is on the proper grade; <br />(iv)Ditches are in place where necessary to provide adequate <br />drainage, in accordance with sound engineering practice; <br />(v)Necessary storm pipes of proper size, materials and construction <br />are in place and energy dissipaters installed, in accordance with <br />sound engineering practice; <br />(vi)All disturbed areas are properly stabilized; <br />(vii)The required road sign is in place; <br />(viii)An adequate turn-around is in place at the end of the road; <br />(ix)Required vertical and horizontal clearance is provided; and <br />(x)Sight distance and construction at the intersection with a public <br />road has been approved by NCDOT. <br />(2)Travelway <br />(a)The travelway must be surfaced and compacted with a material <br />acceptable to Orange County to the required width of the particular class <br />of road. <br />(b)A crown should be built into the travelway so that water will drain from <br />the road surface into the side ditch. <br />(c)The crown should not be so great as to cause vehicles to slide off the <br />travelway when ice or snow is on the road. <br />Orange County, North Carolina – Unified Development Ordinance Page 7-18 <br />28 <br />ReturntoAgenda
