March 27, 2015 <br />Jeff Charles <br />5904 Treetop Ridge <br />Durham, NC 27705 <br />jmc51@ix.netcom.com <br />RE: Bicycle Safety <br />Dear Jeff, <br />At the OUTBoard’s March 18 meeting there was a discussion regarding the Planning <br />staff’s plan to address the Board of County Commissioners’ petition related to bicycle <br />safety. I am writing to follow up regarding your expressed special interest in <br />participating in group discussions on recommendations for policies and procedures for <br />addressing bicycle safety issues. You are invited to attend the April 15 and May 20 <br />OUTBoard meetings to discuss the bicycle safety topic for the purpose of reporting its <br />recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners in June. <br />To reiterate what I expressed at the March meeting, I strongly recommend that you and <br />others you intend to bring with you come prepared to convey comments and <br />recommendations in a concise manner. While any attendee will be free to speak at the <br />meeting, I suggest that it would be most productive to select one or two well-spoken, <br />prepared individuals to represent your group. <br />Please refer to the attached staff plan which will form the framework for the discussions <br />at the April and May meetings. At the April meeting the objective is to define the <br />problem statement, categories for addressing the problem, recommended policies and <br />procedures, and identify agencies/departments for addressing problem. At the May <br />meeting, the objective is to review the recommendations/plan that has been developed, <br />comment, refine and finalize for forwarding to BOCC in June. <br />I recognize that this is a potentially heated topic; however, order will be firmly <br />maintained. A full opportunity will be given for all interested parties to express <br />constructive input. <br />The issue of bicycle safety has been a topic of interest by various County groups over <br />the past several years, including discussions by the OUTBoard, the BOCC, and citizen <br />groups. Your interest in contributing to productive discussions and recommendation on <br />this topic is greatly appreciated.
