Bicycle Safety Task Force <br />Applications <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Abigaile Pittman, Transportation/Land <br />Use Planner, 919-245-2567 <br />Tom Altieri, Comprehensive Planning <br />Supervisor, 919-245-2579 <br />Craig Benedict, Planning Director, <br />919-245-2592 <br />PURPOSE: Review Bicycle Safety Task Force applicationsand recommend applicants for <br />appointment. <br />BACKGROUND:The Resolutionauthorizing the creation of a Bicycle Safety Task Force and <br />future appointment of members to serve on the task forcewas approved by the Board of County <br />Commissioners (BOCC) atits March 1, 2015 meeting (Attachment 1). The BOCC requested <br />that the OUTBoard to return to them at its May 5 meetingwith a recommended list of names to <br />be appointed to the Task Force.At its March 16, 2016 meeting the OUTBoardfinalized the <br />application form for the Bicycle Safety Task Force. With the assistance of OUTBoard members <br />and county staff, PSAs for the task force application process have been circulated on social <br />media very heavily in thecountynewsletter, to multiplelocal newsgroups and othermedia <br />sources, to the chambers of commerce and the school system, and specifically categorically <br />targeted to membership groups identified in the Resolution, and those groups previously <br />expressing interest in the topic of bicycle safety. <br />The Resolution provides guidelines that the size and composition of the Task Force be limited to <br />15 people, and that stakeholders from the following groups be included in the membership: <br />x Law enforcement agencies (Sheriff’s Dept. or Highway Patrol) <br />x School representative <br />x Orange County Visitors Bureau <br />x NCDOT staff <br />x County and regional Planning staff <br />x County business <br />x Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce <br />x Chapel Hill/Carrboro Chamber of Commerce <br />x Bicycle advocacy groups <br /> 17
