The Transit Director is expected to plan, <br />coordinate, implement, and evaluate public transportation services to promote high quality and <br />efficient services to the public. Work is performed under general supervision of the County <br />Manager. <br />*This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol <br />Program is required. Background check required. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: <br />Illustrative Examples of Work: A position may not include all the work examples <br />given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned. <br />Develops and manages long-range public transit planning processes to ensure goals for growth <br />are well integrated and coordinated; <br />Oversees state and federal grant applications, awards, and reporting for both rural and urban <br />service. Monitors cost capital and operating costs to comply with regulations associated with <br />outside funding; <br />Coordinates with North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Public Transit Division, <br />GoTriangle (Bus and Rail Investment Plan-related funds), and the Orange County Finance <br />Department on reimbursements for transit services and/or capital improvements; <br />Serves as primary liaison between Orange County and other stakeholders such as the general <br />public, GoTriangle, Chapel Hill Transit, other local jurisdictions, and state agencies and boards <br />(i.e. Metropolitan Planning Organizations) in the coordination of public transportation services; <br />Represents the department on the Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro Metropolitan Planning <br />Organization Technical Committee and Orange County Bus and Rail Investment Plan Staff <br />Working Group. Coordinates with Durham on shared cost routes; <br />Reviews Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to transit service functions and <br />ensures full compliance. Prepares materials related to required plans, audits, reviews, or <br />questions; <br />Coordinates with the Human Service departments to identify unmet transportation needs and <br />provides options that meet those needs through collaboration with public and private partners;17
