Review of Orange County staff resources available to the subcommittee; and <br />introductions to Todd McGee, Director of the Community Relations Department, and <br />Melissa Blackburn, Graphic Designer/ Assistant Webmaster, Community Relations <br />Department. <br /> <br />Notes from Abigaile Pittman’s August 9th meeting with Todd McGee, Melissa <br />Blackburn, and Laurie Paolicelli were provided to the Subcommittee (attached to <br />Notes for reference). <br /> <br />C. Discussion, planning and selection of initial implementation activities. <br /> <br />There was a discussion of the logo design, and relating to the campaign slogan of <br />“Drive Safely, Ride Safely”. Everyone agreed that the logo should be humanized. <br /> <br />Melissa Blackburn stated that she will submit a good number of logo options to the <br />Subcommittee for review. She said that the group could send her examples of logos <br />that they like. <br /> <br />Abigaile Pittman passed out a list of media venues that the Community Relations <br />Department and the Visitors Bureau have contracts with (attached to Notes for <br />reference). <br /> <br />Todd McGee asked if it was more important to target motorists or cyclists. The <br />subcommittee members agreed that both were important; and that the focus should <br />be on people, mutual respect, and education. <br /> <br />There was a general discussion of having a range of graphics beyond the logo, for <br />use in various mediums such as bumper stickers, brochures, yard signs, articles, <br />website, etc. Alyson West stated that they could also take photos to add to articles, <br />the website, and signs. Heidi Perry stated that the Bike Walk NC site has many <br />good examples that can be used for reference. <br /> <br />Abigaile Pittman said that she would consult with NCDOT regarding the process for <br />proceeding with a number of roadway entry signs. They will have specific <br />standards. It was suggested that she contact Chuck Edwards or Kevin Lacey. <br />Specific sign costs would need to be determined. <br /> <br />Todd McGee and Melissa Blackburn stated that much of the printing could be done <br />online at VistaPrint.com. <br /> <br />The group discussed development of a freestanding website for bicycle safety. <br />Todd McGee and Melissa Blackburn stated that this can definitely be done.
