UPDATES <br /> <br />a) Downtown Hillsborough Improvements (Margaret Hauth) <br /> <br />All needed NCDOT approvals are finally in-hand for the downtown access <br />project. Hillsborough has a contractor and signed contracts. Work is expected <br />to begin mid-April. A public information session was held on March 20. A pre- <br />construction meeting was held on March 28. The project provides accessible <br />curb ramps and crosswalks at all downtown intersections, additional sidewalk <br />connections to key destinations and widened sidewalks in congested areas. <br />More detailed project description is available on the Town website. <br /> <br />The east side work adjacent to the courthouse will be done first, and then <br />work will move to Tryon Street and move south. There is also an email list for <br />merchants and others to receive regular updates. Anyone wanting to be <br />included on that list should contact Hillsborough Planner Stephanie <br />Trueblood. Work will continue through the summer. Once the sidewalk work is <br />completed, NCDOT will have to schedule the resurfacing of Churton Street. <br />Once that is scheduled and complete, the stamped crosswalk improvements <br />will be the final step. <br /> <br />b) Too-brief signalization limiting traffic headed north/south on Nash Street at its <br />intersection with West King in west Hillsborough (NCDOT) - Timing updates <br />have been completed to extend the signal to 25 seconds. <br /> <br />c) Schley Road Crash Analysis (Max Bushell) <br /> <br />An Orange County resident recently informed Orange County Transportation <br />Planning staff of a recent severe crash along Schley Road close to the <br />intersection of Schley Road and New Sharon Church Road.
