The Coalition concluded its presentation by petitioning the OUTBoard to make the SRTS
Plan a high priority and to present this request to the BOCC. The OUTBoard unanimously
approved the request from the Coalition.

On October 13, 2016 Planning staff and representatives from the Walkable Hillsborough
Coalition met with staff from the Town of Hillsborough. At this meeting, Hillsborough staff
proposed two smaller school safety projects not officially included in the SRTS Plan:
 Construction of a small pedestrian bridge over a creek on Hayes Street for Central
Elementary School students; and
 Construction at the end of Rencher Street of a gate at the back of the field for
Orange High School, which would provide students quicker, more direct and safer
access to the school.

These two projects are being considered for inclusion in the revised Connectivity Plan that
the Town is currently developing. Hillsborough staff felt that these two projects could be
accomplished much quicker and would help to build interest in the SRTS Plan
implementation cause within the community.

At its November 16, 2016 meeting the OUTBoard received a second presentation from
representatives from the Walkable Hillsborough Coalition regarding updates on the group’s
activities since the September 21st OUTBoard meeting. The OUTBoard requested that
Planning staff put a discussion of the SRTS Plan on its agenda for its January 18 meeting.

FINANCIAL IMPACT: Other than staff time, there is no immediate financial impact
associated with this item.

RECOMMENDATION(S): The staff recommends the OUTBoard receive the information,
discuss, and identify next steps.

66
