Best of luck to Connie Pixley who plans to retire on June 1, 2017 and to Stacy Shelp who
has resigned her position effective April 28, 2017 to accept a position with the United
Way.

Bills of interest:

House Bill 66 - Carolina Cares. This bill is being led by Representatives Lambeth,
Murphy, Dobson and White. Rep. Lambeth (Forsyth) is the lead sponsor of the bill. This
bill will increase access to insurance for North Carolinians who are working but currently
do not have insurance.

Senate Bill 74 (Rabies bill) and Senate Bill 131 (Regulatory Reform Act of 2017). SB74
passed Senate Rules committee with no discussion. Will likely survive the Senate and
head over to the House. Public health supports this bill in its current language. SB 131 is
on the Senate calendar for concurrence. The House and Senate worked together on
amendments made by the House. The expectation is the Senate will concur and the bill
will then go to the Governor for his signature. Changes were made as requested
eliminating additional work for local health departments regarding inspection of water
line.
