<br />SECTION 1: INTRODUCTION <br />FINAL REPORT <br />• OF ORGANIZATION <br />1.1.1. TYPE OF SYSTEM <br />The Orange County Public Transportation Service (OPT) provides transportation <br />services to agency clients and general public passengers residing in the rural areas <br />of Orange County. Chapel Hill Transit (CHT) serves the urbanized areas of Chapel <br />Hill and Carrboro Additional transit service is provided within the urbanized areas by <br />the Triangle Transit Authority (TTA). <br />The OPT system is a division of the Orange County Department on Aging (DOA). A <br />Transportation Services Board (TSB) provides input to the OPT's Supervisor. The <br />TSB reflects a recent reorganization of the old Transportation Advisory Board (TAB). <br />1.1.2. CURRENT TRANSIT SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE COMMUNITY <br />OPT provides the following services: <br />• Transportation assistance, including a donated vehicle program <br />• General public bus service <br />• Special agency bus and van service <br />• Door-to-door van service <br />• Special event service <br />OPT maintains a website providing a comprehensive overview of OPT's services <br />and programs. The following descriptions come from the website, <br />http?//www.co.orange.nc.us/aging/op t/. This information is also published in <br />brochure form <br />Special Agency Bus and Van Services <br />OPT transports clients of Orange County community service organizations, such as <br />the Department of Social Services and the Orange Enterprises Inc. Routes, <br />operated under contract, transport people with ongoing transportation needs. The <br />service is open to the general public, but seating is limited, with priority for people <br />with employment and training needs The hours of service are 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM. <br />OPT provides subscription and demand-response transportation services to 17 <br />major human service agencies in Orange County The major agencies currently <br />participating in the OPT system are as follows: <br />• Department on Aging <br />• Department of Social Services <br />• Orange Enterprises <br />• Orange County Health Department <br />• Cedar Grove Senior Center/Nutrition Program <br />• Efland Senior Center/Nutrition Program <br />• Central Orange Senior Center/Nutrition Program <br />• Northside Senior Center/Nutrition Program <br />Orange County I 1 <br />COMMUNITY TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PLAN "m sa,ilh 1-
