General: except as specifically directed otherwise by the Designer, use only the type of <br />sealants described in the section. <br />B. Sealant: Shall be low modulus, non - staining one -part urethane and of gun -grade <br />consistency. Sealant shall be easily workable and shall be capable of producing a <br />smooth attractive finish. For joints in vertical surfaces, provide ASTM C920, Type S or <br />M, Grade NS, Class 25, Use NT. For joints in horizontal surfaces, provide ASTM C920, <br />Type S or M, Grade P, Class 25, Use T. Color shall be approved by Owner. <br />C. Sealant shall be Dynatrol I, by Pecora Corporation; Sonolastic NP -1, by Sonneborn; <br />Sikaflex 201, by Sika Corporation, or approved equal. <br />2.02 Back -up Materials <br />A. General: Use only those back -up materials which are specifically recommended for this <br />installation by the manufacturer of the sealant used, and which are non - absorbent and <br />non - staining. Closed -cell back -up materials must be 1/8 inch larger in diameter than the <br />width of the joint; soft back -up materials must be 25% larger in diameter than the width <br />of the joint. <br />B. Acceptable types include closed -cell, resilient urethane or polyvinylchloride foam; <br />closed -cell, polyethylene foam; closed -cell sponge of vinyl or rubber, or approved equal. <br />C. Fire Rated Walls: Mineral wool or Ultra -Block as manufactured by Pecora. The wall <br />shall have a minimum two hour rating. <br />2.03 Cleaner: Shall be xylol, toluene, or commercial solvent recommended by the sealant <br />manufacturer. <br />2.04 Primer: Shall be as supplied by sealant manufacturer. <br />2.05 Miscellaneous Materials: All other materials not specifically described but required for complete <br />and proper caulking and installation of sealants shall be first quality of their respective kinds, <br />new, and as selected by the Contractor subject to the approval of the Owner. <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br />3.01 Examination <br />A. Examine all areas and conditions under which work of this section will be performed. <br />B. Correct conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work. Do not <br />proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. <br />3.02 Preparation <br />A. Do not add liquids, solvents, or powders to the sealant. Mix multi- component <br />elastomeric sealants in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. <br />17 -198 Sealants and Caulking <br />079200 -2 <br />
