Flashing Cement: Shall be waterproof elastic slaters' cement colored as closely as possible <br />to match slate color. <br />F. Snow Guards: Shall be formed from 20 ounce copper and designed for securement directly <br />to the deck, 2 fasteners minimum. Snow guard shall be "pad style ", minimum 2 inches in <br />width. <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br />3.01 Inspection <br />A. Verify that the existing deck is sound, smooth, properly secured, free of depressions and <br />voids, properly sloped and dry. <br />B. Prior to installing slate, verify that underlayment is unbroken, tight, free of holes and tears, <br />and secured. <br />3.02 Installation - General <br />A. Slate installation work shall be in accordance with the National Roofmg Contractors <br />Association (NRCA) Steep Roofing Manual, 2017 Edition, and the National Slate <br />Association. <br />B. All existing slate shall be removed and carefully stored for reinstallation. Exercise caution <br />when removing existing slate so as to minimize potential damage to the substrate. <br />C. Existing slate scheduled to be reinstalled shall be sounded for deficiencies prior to <br />reinstallation. Individual slate shall be held in suspended fashion between thumb and <br />forefinger and struck with a slating hammer or the knuckles of the hand. Slate emitting a <br />clear, solid, bell -like sound shall be deemed acceptable for reuse. Slate emitting a dull thud <br />shall be disposed of and not reused. <br />3.03 Self- Adhering Membrane <br />A. Install one layer of self - adhering membrane at all valleys, hips, and ridges. Membrane shall <br />be installed directly to the deck. <br />B. Membrane shall be centered over the hip, ridge or valley and extend the full length of each. <br />C. Eave and ice dam protection shall be installed at all eaves. <br />D. Starting from the eave edge, install one ply of self - adhering membrane. Membrane shall be <br />installed in shingle fashion extending from the eave edge to a point 24 inches beyond the <br />interior face of the exterior walls. <br />E. Self- adhering membrane shall be installed at all projections and penetrations. Self- adhering <br />membrane shall extend a minimum of 4 inches vertically and onto the plane of the roof a <br />minimum of 8 inches. <br />17 -198 Slate Roofing <br />073300.3 <br />
