Remove damaged, deformed, or deteriorated materials and replace with new materials. <br />Notify Owner and Designer of any replacement. Wood requiring replacement shall be <br />verified by the Owner or Designer. Claims for additional cost shall be denied without <br />verification. <br />B. Set rough carpentry to required levels and lines, with members plumb, true to line, cut, <br />and fitted. Fit rough carpentry to other construction; scribe and cope as needed for <br />accurate fit. Locate nailers and blocking to comply with requirements for attaching other <br />construction. <br />C. Anchor wood securely to underlying construction. Perimeter nailers shall be anchored in <br />accordance with FM Loss Prevention Data Sheet 1 -49. <br />D. Wood shall be secured with a minimum of two fasteners per piece. Fasteners shall be <br />positioned 6 inches from each end and a maximum of 2 feet o.c and staggered 1/3 of the <br />nailer width. Two fasteners shall be installed at ends of nailer lengths. <br />E. Anchors shall be countersunk to provide a flush finish. <br />3.03 Installation — Deck <br />A. Thoroughly examine all existing decking and secure as necessary. Deck planks that are <br />warped shall be drawn smooth and properly secured. Joints greater than 1/4" in width <br />shall be covered with 24 gauge galvanized sheet metal. Width of sheet metal shall be <br />sufficient to extend beyond crack boundaries a minimum of three inches. <br />B. Damaged or deteriorated deck shall be removed in accordance with Section 024119, <br />Selective Demolition. Deck shall be removed in sufficient quantity to allow new <br />materials to bear firmly on rafters /joists or supporting structural members. Existing <br />materials shall be removed to allow ends of replacement deck to rest on two adjacent <br />rafters /joists. <br />C. Replacement deck shall be secured to rafters /joists with appropriate fasteners. Allow <br />1/8" space between individual boards. <br />3.03 Installation — Plywood <br />A. Plywood shall be installed where indicated on the drawings. Plywood shall be secured <br />with a minimum of two fasteners or one fastener every two square feet whichever is <br />greater. Fasteners shall be located 2 inches from the top and bottom edges. <br />B. Top of plywood shall be beveled at 45 degrees. <br />END OF SECTION <br />17 -198 Rough Carpentry <br />061000 -4 <br />
