<br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: March 20, 2018 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 7-a <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Orange County Public Transportation Year in Review <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT: Orange County Public Transportation <br /> <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Theo Letman, Transit Director, <br />919-245-2007 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />PURPOSE: To provide Department updates, accomplishments and annual operating statistics <br />from the prior year. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: Orange County Public Transportation (OCPT) is the lead transportation <br />agency for public and human services transportation in central and rural Orange County. <br /> <br />In addition OCPT provides transportation to qualified Medicaid recipients for transit to: non- <br />emergency medical appointments, the workplace, job interviews, job fairs, job readiness <br />activities, or GED classes. <br /> <br />OCPT now operates three fixed routes covering key destination points within the Orange County <br />service area: Hillsborough Circulator, Orange-Chapel Hill Midday Connector and the Orange <br />Alamance Connector. <br /> <br />OCPT has also provided rural general public transportation on a seat-available basis for many <br />years on three (3) deviated fixed-routes (one Hillsborough area route and two transfer routes <br />from the Chapel Hill area) that are also designed to provide transportation to work opportunities <br />and programs for persons with developmental disabilities. <br /> <br />The period of OCPT performance is for 2017 - January 1, 2017 through December 30, 2017. <br /> <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with receiving the report. <br /> <br />SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goals are associated <br />with this item: <br />• GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION AND <br />INEQUITY <br />The fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race or color; <br />religious or philosophical beliefs; sex, gender or sexual orientation; national origin or <br />ethnic background; age; military service; disability; and familial, residential or economic <br />status. <br />1
