Draft 2045 MTP Preferred Option <br /> <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Craig Benedict, Planning & Inspections <br />Director, 919-245-2592 <br /> <br /> <br />PURPOSE: To receive a presentation primarily on the population and employment projections <br />used in the 2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) Preferred Option. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization, <br />(DCHC MPO) which is responsible for long range transportation planning for Durham County <br />and parts of Orange and Chatham Counties, is updating its MTP. The 2045 MTP is a federally <br />required, financially constrained, plan that recommends major transportation projects, policies <br />and strategies designed to maintain existing transportation systems and address the region’s <br />future travel needs. Projects must be in the 2045 MTP to receive any state and federal <br />transportation funding through the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). <br /> <br />The Board of County Commissioners received this presentation on November 20th. Staff is <br />providing this presentation to the Planning Board primarily as information but also to find <br />opportunity for Planning Board comments. Any comments received will be communicated to the <br />MPO Board for its consideration. Commissioner Jacobs is Orange County’s representative on <br />the MPO Board with Commissioner Rich as his alternate. <br /> <br />The OUTBoard also commented and a summary will be given at the meeting. <br /> <br />Next Steps <br />• December 13 – DCHC MPO Board to approve the Preferred Option and release full 2045 <br />MTP report and final Goals/Objectives/Targeted Performance Measures for public <br />comment. <br />• January 10 – DCHC MPO Board to adopt by resolution the 2045 MTP and report. <br /> <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): Planning staff recommends the Board: <br /> <br />1.
